Juniper Park\TBWA Designs Issue #1 of Wayward Arts Magazine's Newest Series

TORONTO; October 10, 2019 -- Ever wonder how to become a cult leader? The new Wayward Arts (W/A) series will give you some tips. In fact, this series seeks to answer many of life's "How to..." questions.
Wayward Arts is a collaborative magazine showcasing the pure unfiltered spirit of Canadian graphic design. Each month a prominent Canadian design studio designs a new issue filled with innovative design, featuring specialty printing and finishing techniques. Every issue is an unpredictable expression of creativity.
Issue #1 of the new series, titled “How to be a Cult Leader,” is a dark design parody on the world of social media influencers and was designed by global creative agency Juniper Park\TBWA.
The new issue breaks down how to be a cult leader in three parts: find your thing, growing your cult, and reaching your full potential. These three parts are subdivided into 9 steps, which detail specific actions one must take to achieve to be successful such as realization, cultivate, and curation.
The design of the magazine includes a unique micro-embossed cover.
"For this DIY issue of Wayward Arts magazine, we wanted a subject that would contrast with beautiful printing. We chose the dark universe of cult following, poking fun at social media influencers," says Nathalie Cusson, Creative Director of Design at Juniper Park\TBWA. "For this editorial 'start up kit' we created a visual language through distorted typography, black and white photography and mystic symbols.
The result is a tension between the beauty of the hi-quality print, and a dark subject treated with tongue-in-cheek humour."
Printing was handled by Flash Reproductions, with paper provided by Ariva/Sappi Pape.
Further issues of the new series will be released over the course of 2020.
